Family Caregiving Book Wins 2008 Caregiver Friendly Award
The Family Caregiving Reference Guide and DVD, the first release in the American Red Cross consumer safety series, has been awarded a 2008 Caregiver Friendly award. The Caregiver Friendly Awards are presented by Today’s Caregiver magazine to celebrate outstanding books, media, products and services, which have been designed with the best interest of the caregiver and his or her loved one in mind.
The award will be presented at the Today’s Caregiver magazine’s 10th annual Fearless Caregiver Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL on May 15. Award winners are also being profiled in the May/June issue of Today’s Caregiver and on the magazine’s Web site. Today's Caregiver magazine and www.caregiver.com, launched in 1995, are published by Caregiver Media Group, which also produces the Fearless Caregiver Conferences.
Many people in our community care for a loved one who is plagued with Alzheimer’s, dementia, other mental and physical disabilities, or just old age. According to a University of Utah estimate, there are about 173,000 family caregivers in Utah, and over 171 million hours are spent in giving care to loved ones. About 60% of those giving care also work full or part time. While family caregivers are unpaid, they provide the majority of long-term care services.
